Chongqing
Chongqing is perched on
a rocky promontory hugging the Yangtze and Jialing rivers. It is the largest
city of the southwest China. The city is not constructed on traditional grid
lines, the houses in the old city center are typical of the architecture in
this region, closing to the slopes with their black roofs resembling swallows
nests. The top floor has a door to the street and the lower floors overlooks
one of the rivers. Major tourist attractions are Dazu Stone Sculptures, Museum
of General Stilwell, People's Assembly Hall and Municipal Museum of History.

The Dazu Stone Sculptures
are located in Dazu (Big Foot) county, 135km northwest of Chongqing.
These 50,000 amazing stone sculptures were made in a period between late Tang
( 618 - 917 ) and late Southern Song ( 1127 - 1279 )dynasties, at the two
areas of Beishan and Baodingshan. The famous sculpture of "1000-arm Goddess
of Mercy" has as many as 1,007 arms and hands sticking out like a peacock,
covering a total area of 88 square meters off a single rock face. Each hand,
graceful and soft, adopts an elegant and charming posture.In addition, "Flute-Playing
Girl", "Girl Chicken-Raiser" and "Cow Boy" conjure up a superb picture of
the idylic serenity. You will discover that the appeal of Dazu is undoubtedly
